Charles O. Phillips passed away on June 22, 2016 celebrating his 78th birthday at home with his family in Easton, California. He was born on June 22, 1938 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Beulah and Oliver "Bud" Phillips. His family moved to California and eventually settled in Madera where he attended Madera High School. He graduated from Madera High School where he met the love of his life, Bernice Findley. Chuck and Bernice were married for 58 years.
Chuck started his own business "Mid Valley Demolition" which proved to be very successful for many years before he went back to work with the Operating Engineers where he retired after 50 plus years. His work ethic and knowledge of heavy equipment and machinery was known to all who worked with him and shared in his wonderfully elaborate stories. He was extremely intelligent and an out of the box thinker.
Chuck was talented in many ways from wood working to restoring old trucks and vehicles. He was always tinkering around in his garage. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing with his family and a trip to the casino now and then, as well as a good cigar. He always said the two most important things in life were work and his family. Work because he had to have it to take care of his family. He was a gentle, giving man who valued family, friendship and the simple things in life. He was a man of his word. If he said it, he did it. You could always count on him. He will be dearly missed but his memories and stories will live on forever.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Beulah, his sister Fannie and his son Ronney. He is survived by his wife Bernice, son Rickey and wife Mary his daughter Julie Richardson and companion Deryl. His grandchildren, Jennifer Thompson and husband Jim, Amey Leon and husband John, Rickey Phillips Jr., Katie Trevino and husband Vince, Tyler Richardson, Christopher Richardson and Andrew Bergman. His many Great Grandchildren, Kylee, Laura, Kyndall, Emery, Jacob, Trinity, Avrey, and Teagan. Nephew Charlie Hatmaker and wife Diane. He also leaves behind his beloved Chihuahuas Belle and Sissy.
